Crushin’ It – An Update

Seems like the storm clouds are finally starting to clear and the sun is coming out to shine. This feels really good and the Flints are a happy bunch.

It’s hard to figure out just where to start on this update since I’ve not been very good about blogging over the past, well, two years or so. That’s okay! I’ll just dive right in. 🙂

Mr. Pickles is growing like a weed and has been keeping really busy this summer. He went to a school/summer camp for two weeks and got to socialize with kids his own age and get familiar with where he’ll be in the fall. He also took swimming lessons and loves being a little fishie minus putting his head under water (mommy feels the same way, Mr. P!).

He’s also pretty much as spoiled as they come. Check out the super cool fort that Nana and Papa Flint built for him out of repurposed materials they had around the house (we love how they don’t waste anything!):

Doesn’t he look so big here?!

And here he is after getting a new magazine subscription from Grandpa Gato and Grandma Maria:

All smiles!

All smiles!

He’s also been encouraging mommy to continue her yoga practice and will ask to do poses on the mat. Here he is practicing:

Future yogi.

His latest obsessions are Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, stickers (and sticking them EVERYWHERE), and says his signature color is red. He also likes to help mommy get dressed in the morning while coordinating outfits. “Mom, I think you need to take your black purse today.” 🙂

Speaking of mommy…I’ve started a new job at a local college here in Albuquerque as an Admissions Representative. I work with students who are interested in becoming nurses and discuss the program with them. It’s so fun to discuss goals with future students and work out a plan to get them to where they want to be. It’s only been a week and a half so far, but I think I’m really going to love it!

Russ has been plugging away as an IT administrator of a call center where he manages about 1000 users on a daily basis. Talk about keeping someone on his toes! He loves what he does, though, and he gets all the free Starbucks he can drink so it’s a pretty good gig for him. He loves the people he interacts with and enjoys the work so it makes the days go by quickly. Sometimes, too quickly and he has to bring the work home at night and on weekends, too. Again, good thing he loves what he does!

As always, Russ & I are always in love with good TV and are currently obsessed with Key & Peele, Ray Donovan, and Power.

Some of the best TV, though, is just watching the antics of Mr. Pickles! We will leave you with a mashup of him singing the childhood classic “No More Monkeys Jumping On the Bed” and Brad Paisley’s hit “Crushin’ It.” Until next time…

Mr. Pickles Goes Shopping

It’s no secret that Mr. Pickles makes out like a bandit at the holidays and then a couple months later at his birthday, so we held back his birthday money and gift cards until the dust of the celebrations had settled so he could enjoy new goodies without overwhelm.

Today we went to Mr. Pickles favorite place on the planet: the toy store. Be it Toys R Us, Hastings, or Target, they are all his favorite as long as he is looking at toys. Today took us to Toys R Us.

Looking for toys is serious business.

He’s been through a lot of phases in his 4 years on the planet so far, but right now his passion is very much the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This boy will introduce you them all and then quiz you about your favorite. So the next time you meet up with our boy, you’d better be ready!

Xion Toy Testings

Testing out the merch.

Very happy with his purchases, he examines his loot on the way home.

Xion Car

Is this as tough as my other turtles?

We told Xion that he had to finish his lunch before he could play with any of his new toys. We’re pretty sure he ate at warp speed.

Xion Thor

I’ve completed my Avengers collection!

And before nap time, Mr. Pickles decided to pose with what Russ and I think to be the very coolest toy of the day…

Xion Batman

I’m Batman!

Keeping up with this little guy in a toy store is no easy task, but we survived! Who wants to take this cute guy shopping next?

Mr. Bean(ie)

Mr. Pickles won’t be confused by another name anytime soon, but you have to admit he looks pretty darn adorable in this hat.

Xion Beanie

For now, that’s all folks. Stay tuned.

Hello, 2015

Oh this poor, neglected little blog. It’s not that things aren’t going on…it’s just that moving at the speed of Mr. Pickles isn’t always easy. Except on days like today. We like this speed.

Fancy (A Flint Update)

Wow, who knew we still had a blog? I guess we decided to hibernate for the winter but it’s time to peek out (man it’s sunny out there!) and give a little update.

Let’s just cut to the chase and talk about the most important Flint. The one you all come here to hear about…Mr. Pickles. We know he’s the main attraction and, honestly, we totally understand why. 😉

Over the past several months he’s shot up like a string bean and can reach wayyyyy too many things in the house now. Nothing, I repeat nothing, is safe. The cats are all happy they can climb high atop their cat tree, but the dogs, well, they aren’t so lucky. Mr. P has recently professed his love for sweet Willa and she’s not too sure what to make of her new shadow.

He’s a talking machine now, too, and is entering the “Why?” and “How’d that happen?” phase of his little life. We do our best to explain things to the little man but sometimes it’s easiest to just say “Because that’s how Batman does it” and call it a day.

Batman Slippers

Another crazy milestone is that X-man is totally potty trained (cue the music and confetti) and he pretty much trained himself. Russ and I know he could have been trained earlier but we made the conscious choice to let him go at his own pace. With the help of No More Diapers for Ducky, talking to him about the big boy potty, and Nina Needs to Go, one day Xion proclaimed he was ready to use the bathroom all on his own and hasn’t stopped since. It was pretty much the easiest process ever and he only had 2 little accidents after that. He’s completely into his Jake and McQueen chones now and we are ridiculously proud parents.

And how about me and Russ? Well, we can’t compete with Mr. Pickles in milestones, but we have been busy, too. I’ve resumed my writing business and taken on new clients and have even started a YA novel about a young girl named Xavia. I took a trip to New Orleans and listened to some great music, drank way too much Purple Haze, and got lost until 1 a.m. and stumbled upon Cafe Du Monde.

As for Russ, well, when I asked him what he wanted to let you all know, he said to let you know he’s alive. Good to know, babe, good to know. 😉 He is happy cruising around our new car, though, a Ford Explorer who he has fondly dubbed the Death Bringer. Sure makes this mama feels safe that he carts around our 3-year-old in a vehicle with that moniker.

In other news, we’ve fallen in love with Bill Maher, Silicon Valley, and Iggy Azalea. It’s like we are 40 and 14 all at once. Oh, and we are moving across town with the help of Nana and Papa Flint in the next month or so. Goodbye to that lengthy commute to Trader Joe’s to get goodies and get to the nicer movie theater. Priorities, people, priorities.

So, that’s about it for this lazy Sunday. We’ll leave you with Mr. Pickles latest favorite song. You know, because he’s so fancy…

Happy Ha-Meen (An Autumn Update)

The weather is getting mighty chilly here in ABQ and we even had our first snow last night. Feels like the ghosts and goblins of Happy Ha-Meen (as Mr. Pickles said for Happy Halloween) are but a distant memory now and Frosty is already knocking at our door. This year has truly flown by and we thought it as good a time as any for a good ol’ Flint family update.

Up first is Mr. Pickles because, let’s face it, he’s the star of our little clan. He spends most weekdays with his Nana Flint playing with his Matchbox cars and making creations with his beloved Play Doh. He’s talking up a storm and loves to tell mommy and daddy that he’s “too busy” when we ask him to do something or if we ask how his day has been. He’ll be taking applications for a personal assistant soon to keep up with all his appointments. Trust us, this will be a most coveted position. 😉 Our lives haven’t been the same since he learned to say “I want that” and since our little man discovered the wonders of Disney Junior’s Jake and the Never Land Pirates. Yo ho ho!

Russ began a new position at Intel in late August. He’s an instructor who loves his job and enjoys working close enough to home to sneak away at lunch time to dine with his sweetie. He’s also been hitting the gym pretty hard and getting nice and muscle-y. *whistles* Other distractions have been Grand Theft Auto V and making sure Willa and Cypher get their nightly walks no matter how cold it gets.

And last on the roster is little ol’ Woz (that’s me!) who has been busy building her virtual assistant business (checkout her new website!) and trying her best to keep up with the aforementioned Mr. Pickles.  She began writing a book back in June and hopes to really dive into that more fully in the new year.

Russ and Woz make it a point to spend time together every night and that usually includes a little bit of the tube. Lately the favorites have been The Walking Dead, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, Scandal, Nashville, Homeland, Bill Maher, and American Horror Story: Coven. We eagerly await the return of Girls coming back in January.

As for Mr. Pickles, well, as we said, he’s obsessed with Jake. Oh yeah, and these egg videos, too. He could watch these on his iPad all day so we’ll leave you with one. Enjoy. 😉

Bye Bye Bottles

We aren’t sure how old exactly it is when a toddler is supposed to say goodbye to bottles entirely, but we’ve let Mr. Pickles go at his pace. Today was a big day, though, and daddy took him to the store to pick out some big boy cups so we could say goodbye to his bottles at bedtime. He’s been using big boy cups for his other drinks for some time now, but definitely needed his bottle at naps and bedtime.

Needless to say, we were a little nervous about presenting him with a different cup at his bedtime (and a little sad — our baby is growing up), but he was so excited to use his new Lightning McQueen cup that he didn’t even seem to care about the missing bottle. Another milestone for the little man.

Bye bye bottles, our guy is growing up.
