Flint 2.0

So I was trying to think of what to write about next here and got to thinking “Do we have anything major going on? Hmmmmmm.” Well, I guess we have that one thing happening — you know, that we are going to have a baby and all. So I guess that’s worthy of a blog, eh? πŸ˜€

Yes, yes, it’s true that the Flint household is planning to have a new family member join us in March. It’s taking some getting used to the fact that we’ll have a child of the two-legged variety but we are both really quite happy about it. I can’t speak for the kitties because, well, I’m sure they are just going to wonder why we brought something home that doesn’t meow. I’m sure they’ll warm up to the idea though. We still haven’t sat them all down to have the official “talk” with them yet but really that’s not our fault. Have you ever tried to gather 4 cats in one place (without the bribe of food!) to have them pay attention? It’s really like the impossible task!

So, we’ll try not to bore you with a lot of ultrasound pictures over the next 6 months, but we thought we’d at least share this one. This was taken at the doctor’s last week (I was 11 weeks and 2 days here) and the Dot (that’s what we are calling the little one right now) was really quite active. Jumping up and down, covering and uncovering eyes as if playing peek-a-boo, and giving us something to oooh and awwww at during the visit. Oh, a little entertainer in the making.

I present to you, the little Dot Flint:

Yes, they all look like aliens!

I liked this one the best because the Dot is looking at us with his or her little mouth open.Β  If it looks like just a blob to you, that’s okay, before all of this, that’s all these ever looked like to me, too. πŸ˜‰ I swear there is a little face there, though!

I wanted to keep this light and fluffy, but did want to just stop and say how excited we are about this happening. Many of you know my medical history and know that the idea of having one of these little guys wasn’t something I ever thought was going to be in the cards for me. Then I met Russ and things just all came together. *happy* So a new adventure is about to begin…again and we couldn’t be happier. πŸ˜€

The Meow Mix

We love our furkids and it’s so fun to see all their little personalities come out. These kitties have it made and have no idea. And that’s just the way we like it.

Maxwell if our talkative guy, Dewey is our distinguished guy, Baby Kitty is our shy girl and India is our social butterfly of a girl. On any given day, though, they can be anything they want.

Dewey is anything but distinguished when it comes to a little something known as the nip. Catnip that is. We picked some up fresh from the Growers’ Market this past Sunday and it’s like kitty crack. Well, mainly to Dewey but that’s good because he needs to lay off the good ol’ treats as he’s a bit of a Tub o’ Dew.

This was me trying to get a shot of him lovin’ up his nip. Not so easy to do when he was rolling around the floor like an addict.

Did someone say distinguished?

Just like when I was a little girl and carried around three Raggedy Ann dolls (Fannie, Crannie, and Nannie), Maxwell has a little gang of stuffed toys that he likes to haul around, too. Usually when we head to bed for the night, we can hear Maxwell meowing around in the living room as if he is rounding up his little gang and telling them it’s time to hit the sack, too. He typically puts his favorite one on my pillow at night and cuddles up next to him but they don’t always make it there. I woke up to this picture this morning:

From left to right: Oscar, Mac, and Ganzito (Maxwell's favorite)

It’s like he told them there wasn’t any room in bed for them but he wanted them to stay close just in case. This makes me giggle. You’ll also notice these guys aren’t your normal dainty cat toys. These are the size of dog toys; Maxwell doesn’t mess around.

Just for fun here isΒ  some video Russ took while he was home from work sick one day. Baby Kitty and Dewey are love bugs and here Baby Kitty is “making muffins” on her main squeeze, Dewman. πŸ˜€

Oh how we love the whole gang…our very own little meow mix.

Goodbye, Dylan

Every now and then a person walks into our lives that changes us just by their presence. Dylan Ravenfox was one of those people. In the two months that I got to know him, I got to know the kind heart, the amazing writer, the nothing-can-stop-me activist that walked around in a gentle, loving, gorgeous smile of a person. Last Saturday the world said goodbye to him. This coming Saturday, Russ and I will be in Santa Fe with Dylan’s family and many, many friends who were honored to know him.

Upstate New York, July 2009

We are changed by the people who walk into our lives and my only regret is that his time in mine was so very short. The world is going to miss all the amazing things that Dylan Ravenfox was going to bring to it. I’m honored I at least got to have a moment.

Wine Me, Dine Me, Over the Rhine Me

Any city that invites my favorite band in the whole world, Over the Rhine, to town is my kind of town. So let’s chalk another one up for Albuquerque since she hosted them not just one night, but two. And, oh yes, we went to both (of course!).

On Friday night, we headed to the Outpost for the first of two amazing performances by Karin and Linford flying solo sans their full band.

Front row both nights! The first night a full set by the adorable husband and wife and the second night the evening began with an interview by Art of Song — Creativity Radio. The duo was personable, witty, and made us giggle more than once. After the interview, which was recorded and will later air on over 200 radio stations across the country, they geared up for another full set.

Here we are awaiting the show in front of the Steinway whose ivories were waiting to be tickled by Linford.

Over the Rhine Feet!

And here’s Linford!

They played a lot of familiar favorites but also a lot of new songs that will appear on their upcoming album The Long Surrender that will be out on 1.11.11. Except, yours truly will be getting it earlier since, as Linford said, I was one of the chosen few who was paying attention. πŸ˜€ I can’t wait! Squeeeeee!

Karin doesn’t give anything less than her all during a show:

One of their new songs, but one that didn’t make the cut for the new album, was Russ’ favorite of both nights. Here’s for all our animal lovin’ pals, you’ll love this one called “No Kill Shelter”:

Fun isn’t it? πŸ˜€

Since the venue was a small and intimate one, they came out shortly after the show to meet fans, take photos, and sign CDs. While we were waiting, Russ grabbed me the set list for the evening. It’s complete with all of Linford’s notes. That calls for another squeeeeee!

My first OtR set list!

They signed my copy of The Trumpet Child and posed for a photo with me. I always get so nervous that I never know what to say. πŸ˜›

I got my dose of Over the Rhine (for now) and am so excited I got to finally share that with my sweetie. Thanks Karin and Linford! Say hi to Ohio for me!

Russ’ Note: This was my first time seeing Over the Rhine. After hearing about them for the past 10 months, they definitely did not disappoint and have a new fan. Karin and Lindford are talented musicians as well as storytellers and that made me appreciate them that much more. It was really cool they came out after the show to meet everyone; I was a little bit star struck.

Woz’s note:Β  Squeeeeee! πŸ˜€

It’s Already August? (An Update)

We’re going to try to do an update once a month (or every two) just about random things we are doing in general.Β  I particularly like the idea of being able to look back at a snapshot and seeing the small details of what was going on in our lives during a certain time. You know, even the seemingly boring and mundane things. It’s the details that make up all those little moments in our lives anyway, right? Right! Onward!

First, work for both of us is going just fine. Nothing too exciting to report, really. The quarter is over for me in sales so it’s back to the drawing board once again. I was able to meet and beat my quota last quarter which means an even bigger one is looming over me now. Russ reminds me that I didn’t think I was going to hit my quota last time and so I shouldn’t fret too much about the new number. Okay, okay, I hear you, sweetie. So let all your reseller friends know they need to buy refurb items from me, okay? πŸ˜‰ Russ is entertaining the idea of moving to sales, too, so we’ll see what opens up for him. For now, we’re both happy to have good jobs and no longer living paycheck to paycheck. Well, at least I feel that way, I can’t speak for my hubby!

We’re pretty easy to entertain, so while most shows are on reruns, we operate on our own schedule. We are watching a number of shows on any given night but our favorites at the moment are the now canceled Flight of the Conchords and the getting bloodier by the episode True Blood. If you haven’t seen either of these, we HIGHLY recommend. They are completely different types of shows but both equally awesome. Check out a Flight of the Conchords original tune (and so far our favorite). Get ready because it is “Business Time”:

As normal, I really can’t help but get wooed by the smell of new books and am currently reading 3 at the moment. Alicia Silverstone’s The Kind Diet, Charlaine Harris’ Living Dead in Dallas (part of the Sookie Stackhouse series which inspired True Blood) and Elizabeth Gilbert’s Eat, Pray, Love. Since they are all pretty different, I’m finding it easy to keep everything straight. Russ’ favorite comic last month (and it took awhile for him to pick!) was the Thanos Imperative. It’s about a bunch of cosmic heroes and villains teaming up to stop an alternate universe, dubbed the Cancerverse, from invading and taking over our reality. You know, light reading. πŸ˜‰

Let’s see, what else? Well, I’m really excited because I’ve just completed my latest coaching certification. (For those of you who don’t know, I’ve been a certified life coach for nearly 5 years). This certification is through Artella and I’m really excited to re-launch my business. Oh, I even have my first new client lined up. Not too shabby, eh? *pats self on back* More to come on that as I get things going and get my site created to support that work. πŸ˜€

Last, but definitely far from least, Russ’s grandpa, Edward Flint, passed away at the end of July. I don’t think we are ever ready to let go of a loved one, even when they are ready to let go of their physical lives here. Saying goodbye is never, ever easy. So after 90 years, his grandpa said goodbye and is now somewhere happily reunited with his love, Evelyn. They may be gone, but we don’t ever forget the mark they left in our lives and on our hearts.

More soon!

Just before seeing Woz's favorite band in the world!
