Last Wednesday, Xion celebrated his six month birthday. We actually had a whole thing planned to celebrate. He was going to try a new big boy food, get a gift from Uncle Dave, and watch mommy and daddy eat the cupcakes he can’t eat just yet. We planned to sing him happy birthday and make a big fuss over our little guy. A fuss was made alright, but it was actually from him and not for him like we intended. Oh, the constant reminder that he’s in charge and we are merely along for the ride. 😀
Xion isn’t usually a fussy baby at all, so when we went to pick him up from Nana Flint’s and she said it was the “day from hell” we knew our little guy must not be feeling so hot. By the time we got him home he was hot, tired, and we are pretty sure that he’s teething, too. Fussy was definitely not only allowed but completely expected! After a quick dinner, he was out like a light by 7 p.m. Happy Birthday little man.
So, it was a day late, but he absolutely loved his gift from Uncle Dave.
India watched from the sidelines. She prefers it this way as Xion has learned how to “pet” her. His version includes grabbing her fur and tugging. He thinks it’s hilarious but she doesn’t think as much. She’s a good sport.
The fun was taken inside as the little guy needed a bath (and we needed a beer).
He had his 6 month shots on Monday. Russ says that X is like a little tea kettle when he gets pricked. His face is a little surprised, he closes his eyes, his face turns red and then…WAH!!! It only takes about a minute for him to calm down with mommy and daddy giving him lots of hugs and kisses. He’s in the 50th percentile for his weight (16 lbs. and 14 ozs. now!) and is in the 75th percentile for his length (27 inches!). He’s turning into quite the eating machine and would be a total fruititarian if we didn’t tell him he had to eat his veggies, too. Bananas are his favorite and green beans are only eaten when we “trick” him by mixing them with sweet potatoes. There’s no guessing when he doesn’t like something!
What else is new? Oh, a new view!
Lastly, we are trying this new hair brained scheme to save money. Apparently people have been doing it for years and it’s called “cooking.” In all seriousness, it’s not that we mind cooking, it’s the time actually. In the end, though, our wallets are telling us that we’d rather eat healthier food at home than waste our money on the convenience of picking something up. We’ve been having a good time finding yummy fruits and vegetables at local weekend markets to make new dishes. Woz made some chocolate chip zucchini muffins (from the Happy Herbivore cookbook) this weekend with a big zucchini straight out of Nana Flint’s garden. The end result was pretty yummy!
